Hey everyone! i want to share about one of my experience during my exchange year here which is SUPERBOWL! i'm glad, this year i got to experience about this. althou i'm not really a big fan of sport, but this kind of sports are new thing for me that i haven't really known before. this superbowl was on Sunday,February 2nd 2014, which is in the same day as my middle term orientation with CIEE. just so you know CIEE is my placement organization here. talking about superbowl, it's actually a football match and why is it called as superbowl ? well the reason is because somehow superbowl or football is kind of a big thing here in America. it was Seahawk v.s Broncos and to be honest i don't really know about those team hehe, but anyway the winner is Seahawk! yeah... So my host family hosted a superbowl party and invited all people in our neighborhood. i didn't really see the football match, but I just chit and chat with the neighbor that were invited to our party. we had a lot of fun and food as well :3. the party was started at 7 or 6 p.m (* i forgot ) and in that afternoon actually I had mid term orientation with two others grant students in CIEE. so the grants students in CIEE central pennsylvania is just me, Lukas, and Jule. They are from germany, in CIEE i'm the only indonesian yoo, but i'm glad i could have friends from all around the world by becoming an exchange student :) so we all went to the hockey game in Giant Center and it wasn't my first time to go to the hockey game so at that time i know what was going on during the game hehe lol. right away after that my LCs and jule, lukas and I went to friendlys were having a dinner and I have spicy chicken wings which is myyyy favorite food hereee, you don't even know how much i love this food bcause i can't really find the spicy food which is as spicy as my standard haha, but for this on I love it! during dinner, we had a simple conversation about what we've already got during the half year of our exchange year, what were our concerns, and what are the things that we haven't accomplished during our exchange year. i was kind of have more spirit after the mid orientation to conquer anything that i dreamed of during my exchange year here. but the most important thing is being happy and enjoying everything here because know i feel like my host country is my second home <3.
and anyway, here we areeee:
Jule-me-lukas
my LC's and I :3 LOVEE THEM!
so yeahh, right away after my mid term orientation, i found that my house was full of people! apparently the superbowl party already started and I met a lot of my neighbors and people at church, they are all soo nice and we definitely had a really good time. because of that party at least i know more people and again and agaiin i share about my home country and the things that I've experienced during my exchange year in America <3. here are some pics of the superbowl party
SUPERBOWL PARTY!
and that coffee box over there is a sumatran coffee yo! i never had that before in indonesia hehe lol. so yeah that was my superbowl and mid term orientation experience :):)
I'm so grateful I could be part of Lower Dauphin High School Choir. For this spring concert we are going to sing one of Indonesian folksong, well Balinese folksong exactly. it's called "JANGER". My choir teacher and I work together to teach this song to my choir friends. they do appreciate me so much while I was teaching them to pronounce the words, and sing the song. I taught them a lil bit dancing that we r gonna do while we r singing janger for our upcoming performances. they seem sooo excited!! while they were singing that, it's literally give me goosebumps! oh my,, they r really great and even though that song is really hard, but so far they do really great. Last week i presented to my choir class about gamelan which is one of the traditional orchestra from Indonesia. i explained them how it sounds like, how to play it and so on. because in some part of the janger song, we r going to imitate some sound of the gamelan so i hope from my presentation, it will make more sense for them and could feel the music deeply! hehe. beside of that, as the warm up before we sing janger, i taught them about gamelan scale haha. they were so good and catch up really fast.
We use gamelan scale for warm up!
I hope we will do great in our performance! I'm so excited for that. big thanks to my choir teacher who gives me chance to share more about my culture <3 LOVE LDHS CHOIR! :*
Hey guys, long time no posting anything in this blog, definitely i'm glad i could tell my story again this weekend. so yeah, there was an exciting happened last week on March 14th - March 15th> What was that? so I came to the Lower Dauphin High School Minithon 2014!! Minithon is an event that basically held to raise money for the kids who have cancer, the family shouldn't be worry anymore about the money that they have to pay. all money are gonna be covered by us from this activity. as far as I know, minithon is only in Pennsylvania. there is a cooperation between the sponsors and Penn state medical center. it's a great idea to help people by doing this activity. every kids in my schhol has to raise at least 60 bucks to come to the minithon. for the one who have raised more than 100 bucks, they will have certain " sit pass" during the minithon night. " sit pass"??? so during the minithon night, from 7 p.m until 7 a.m, we have to stand for about 12 hours, we are not allowed to sit and we have to be active during the night. there were dances, some sports competition, and bunch of another fun competition such as the Runway, and also Falcon Idol.
Before the minithon started,I helped the committee to set up before the event started, and also in the end of the event I helped them to clean up everything. Because of that, I got a lot of community service hours! Yay.. I appreciate so much to the committee's hard work, I sort of remember the time when I was still in 10th and 11th grade back home in Indonesia. I joined the student council and we have tons of activity each year. i've experienced to be the head of the committee of one of the event in my home school. although we were so busy and even we found really hard to manage our time between studying and organization, but we do have fun!! I feel like they are my second family. I still remember how they made a farewell before I leave Indonesia. Such a sweet and memorable moment! joining the student council back home is really worth it! there are so many things I learned beside of learning about leadership, every single ups and downs that we've been through during that year always teach us something. so proud of us! we handle so many things that probably most people start it while they were in organization in college. but we've already done all that stuff to prepare big school events just by our hands! I miss you tons guys:* here I will introduce you the member of student council where i used to be :
OSIS BHAWIKARSU! (my student council buddies)
So lets go back to talk about Minithon, one of the memorable part of my Minithon night was actually when I was singing at 4 a.m! I've never done it before and I still remember how sleepy I was at that time haha. So I sang "One moment in time" by whitney houston. I had such a great time, all the audiences gave me loooud applauses and some of my friend hugged me as I get down from the stage. I feel so flattered how after I sang even until the next week after minithon, people at school came to me and say that i'm really good. to be honest this is one of the part of my exchange year that i called "expanding my comfort zone" why did I say that? because, I used to be really shy and not confident to sing by my self, but rite know i push out of my limit and i believe that i could do it. one of my teacher hugged me tight and she cried because she was touched while I was singing that song, even the principal also appreciated me in the next day after Minithon. I was so flattered how people appreciate me so much at that time. during the Minithon nite I also made new friends! Yay... I love to connect lives with people here during my exchange year, althou they are not my best friend but at least i try to always have positive attitude and always and always be positive bcause at least while I was here I tried to make a good memory with them that they will remember as I leave from US. I just have few months left until I have to go back to Indonesia. Anyway, this is the video that you can watch while I performed in the minithon night: ENJOY! :)
And the best part of the Minithon night was the time while one of the captain of Minithon announced the amount of money that we collected. here you gooooo
68.070.14 dollars!!!! Yay
So proud of Lower Dauphin High School kids who have already collected that bunch of money for the kids who have cancer. #FTK (for the kids) hehehe. this is one of memorable activity that I've done so far, i impressed how people here have a great effort and sympathy to help people around them who need it. i think it's a great idea to be applied in my home country, because i didn't really see so many volunteering organization, charity, or fundraising activity that start to be applied while we were still as a student. It's a great way to do to help people who have cancer by doing this activity because everyone who involved in that event have to raise certain amount of money. I hope someday I could be the pioneer of this kinda activity back home. Amien. I still remember the positive spirit of that nite. here i'm gonna show ya my minithon spirit :
Selfie with these wonderful girls!
Dancing all nite, get hyped! woohoo
with Amy, Love her painting on her face! I just could draw my flag on my cheek hoho
So yeah i think that's all about my Minithon experience. #FTK!!!!!
Four Diamonds :The organization who support the cancer fighter
Hey Everyone! Last Saturday, I was volunteering in South Hanover Elementary School MiniThon. So, What MiniThon is? basically it's a fundraising event for the kids who have cancer. all the elementary students in South Hanover who already donated their money for that event, they came to that event for dancing and keep the spirit up for about couple hours. every high school kids who volunteer in that event will get certain groups with different bandanna that they have. my group was the blue one, I had so much fun dancing with all the kids, yeah it's my heaven being surrounded by lil kid. One of the kid asked me to dance with him, he is soo adorable, probably he is 5 or 6 yo. awww. in that event we r not allowed to sit down and we have to dance in a row. i went to the stage with them to lead the dance that I've never known before. I can't wait for my host school's Minithon which is in March 14. we gotta stand and spend time without sitting for about 12 hours. woohoooo!!! I'm quite impressed with the elementary kids minithon who succeeded to collect for about 24 thousand dollars!! #For The Kids. so the minithon's pioneer is Penn State which is one of the university in Pennsylvania. I'm really inspired with this kind of fundraising activity, because i don't really have this activity back home, especially for helping people who have cancer. I hope someday, my friend and I could be the pioneer of the organization which basically have purpose to help people. thanks for all the volunteer and participant who #Make it Happen. Good job guys! this is one of things that I learned during my stay here because of people's sympathy to help people around us. #Ilovetobevolunter.#FTK.
